Online Safety @ The Mount
The internet is a tool which offers a variety of learning opportunities for your child. They have access to a range of learning materials in an exciting way and learning how to use it effectively and safely is a crucial part of their learning.
Online safety is covered in school every year from Form I to Form VI.
We recently held an Online Safety evening for parents in which we shared the risks involved in using the internet and the steps we could take to help our children stay safe. The presentation, which includes links to useful websites, is attached below.
The following websites offer further information for parents:
Younger children enjoy the Hector’s World video’s on http://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/5_7/hectorsworld/ or the Smartie the Penguin story on http://www.kidsmart.org.uk/teachers/ks1/readsmartie.aspx . Year 1 and 2 should be able to tell you all about the adventures of Smartie!
Similarly, Key Stage 2 children enjoy exploring the Cyber Café at http://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/8_10/cybercafe/.
Both provide good discussion starting points between you and your child.
If you have any further concerns please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Lawrence who is the subject leader and online safety co-ordinator.
