THE MOUNT SCHOOL

11+

As a truly independent preparatory school, we have no ties to a secondary feeder school.

The main advantage of this is that we are free to assist your child in preparing for the best secondary option for them.

Many of our students go on to achieve places at:

  • The Crossley Heath School
  • North Halifax Grammar School
  • Heckmondwike Grammar School
  • Bradford Grammar School
  • Wakefield Girls' High School
  • Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Wakefield
  • Rishworth School, Halifax
  • Hipperholme Grammar School
  • Huddersfield Grammar School
  • Silcoates School, Wakefield
  • Woodhouse Grove School, Apperley Bridge

Many students who have had secure preparation at primary level and wish to apply to fee-paying secondary schools, also often qualify for additional bursaries and scholarships, due to academic excellence, sporting achievements, music scholarships, etc.

Should you wish for your child to enter back into the state school system from secondary age, we can be sure that they receive the best possible start in life, and are confident that they will excel in any state secondary school environment.

Free Additional 11+ Tuition

As the demand for 11+ preparation for The Crossley Heath Grammar School, North Halifax Grammar School and Heckmondwike Grammar School is growing, we have developed a finely tuned system of additional 11+ tuition that starts in Year 4 and continues throughout Year 5. This additional 11+ tuition is free of charge and has been designed to support the pupils in and out of class.

11+ Preparation

We begin to include formal 11+ preparation into general classwork from the beginning of Year 3. As the standards required to gain a place, especially in a state grammar school, are increasing all the time, early preparation is key to success. We work with parents to assist with your choices for secondary school, and then tailor your child's programme in line with your preferred school options.

There is not a standard 11+ test for all secondary schools. Each school exam will take place at a different time of the year, and consist of different tested elements. More importantly, they all vary between different academic levels. For this reason, it is important that we have continual communication with parents to ensure that the type and level of preparation is appropriate to the schools that you wish to apply for.
