Leavers' Destinations & Scholarships

Children at The Mount Preparatory School move on to a wide variety of senior schools aged 11. Many children will have taken Common Entrance (including 11+) or Scholarship examinations. There is a wealth of knowledge available at The Mount Preparatory School about entry to senior school.

Parents can talk with the Head Teacher and other staff for advice at any time. The process ensures that the school gets to know the family and their desires and ambitions for their children, both academically and pastorally. We look carefully at the child in terms of their abilities, strengths and interests and strive to assist in any way possible to ensure each child is aligned with a secondary school that is the best fit for them.

The Head Teacher and other staff are always happy to discuss the different options available for the children in the years leading up to their entrance at secondary school.

Transition to Secondary School

At The Mount Preparatory School, we are dedicated to providing a comprehensive and well-rounded curriculum that prepares our pupils with the skills and confidence they need for the exciting transition to the next phase of their educational journey.

Our experienced teaching staff are experts in guiding our children through the preparation for entrance exams. We are well-versed in the specific requirements of school entrance exams, including timed extended writing assessments and advanced comprehension skills. From Form III upwards, our students receive instruction in both verbal and non-verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and spatial awareness. Test-taking techniques and time management are ongoing areas of emphasis.

In Form V, our students who are on the 11+ pathway, participate in weekly 11+  practice lessons, ensuring that they are fully prepared for their exams. Currently, these are £55 extra per term. To further mirror the exam experience, we organise a number of mock examinations throughout the academic year.

To promote emotional well-being, we incorporate mindfulness as well as breathing techniques into our curriculum. Additionally, we provide one-on-one meetings with parents to address their concerns and provide support.

We maintain strong connections with local independent, grammar and state secondary schools and offer tailored interview preparation sessions for students seeking admission. We also provide reference letters upon request to support applications for scholarships.
