Form V

Form V

Everything was tranquil and idyllic until the arrival of the 'sea monkeys' aboard their colossal water beetle. Home provided solace and familiarity until the tumult and disorder erupted in the fields of France. Macabre enigmas loom in Scotland, but who is the perpetrator? Will pride prevail over prejudice for Miss Bennet? One certainty remains: the students in Form V are fully immersed in a language-rich environment during their English lessons. Resilience and determination are paramount as they diligently edit, refine, and redraft their work to ensure each piece reaches its fullest potential.
Fractions, fractions, fractions! Proficiency in rapid recall of times tables and related division facts is imperative for success in Mathematics this year, with fractions, decimals, and percentages occupying a significant portion of the curriculum. The prospect of using a protractor in the Summer Term introduces an exhilarating new skill for many children as they master the precise measurement and depiction of a variety of angles.

Building upon the foundation laid in Forms III and IV, daily homework assumes a crucial role in the children's learning journey in Form V. Not only does it foster organisational skills, but the assigned tasks also directly complement our in-class curriculum, spanning Mathematics, SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar), Verbal Reasoning, and Non-Verbal Reasoning, providing parents with insight into and opportunities to support their child's educational progress.

For those on the pathway to the 11+ entrance exams, participation in our 11+ Exam Preparation Club offers invaluable support, with sessions running four times a week from 8:00 - 8:45. This program focuses heavily on exam technique while also ensuring coverage of content beyond the Form V curriculum.

Expectations are set high for all students. Diligence and focus are emphasised, with each task completed to the best of one's ability. While support is readily available and encouraged, greater independence and a willingness to embrace challenges are also expected. It is often through trial and error that the most profound learning occurs.
Above all else, reading reigns supreme! It serves as the cornerstone of success, unlocking limitless possibilities. "The more that you read, the more you will know, the more that you learn, the more places you'll go." So, if you can't find us in the classroom, rest assured, we're likely exploring the boundless realms of the narrative dimension. We'll return soon, enriched by our literary adventures.

Pupils in upper school have been studying the Artwork of Julian Opie and worked really hard to produce a self-portrait in his style. We think the results are great!
