Our Vision

At The Mount Nursery, we understand that nothing is more important to you than the care and education of your child. Our aim is not only to meet your high expectations but to exceed them every day, providing a provision that is second to none.

Our nursery is thoughtfully designed with a neutral theme across all rooms, incorporating dimmable lighting and natural materials. This carefully considered setup creates a calming and focused environment where children feel safe, secure, and ready to learn. The use of soft, neutral tones and adjustable lighting minimises overstimulation and promotes a sense of tranquillity, supporting children’s emotional wellbeing and their ability to engage deeply in activities. Natural materials encourage sensory exploration and creativity, while fostering a connection to the world around them.

Our vision is simple: to nurture each child in our care and ensure they reach their full potential at every stage of their journey. We believe that life and education should be an adventure, and beginning that adventure at The Mount Nursery offers the very best start.

We are thrilled to share the results of our recent inspection by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), which took place in December 2024. The Mount Nursery, as part of The Mount School, has been recognised for its exceptional provision, meeting all required standards and demonstrating excellence across all areas.

The report highlights our commitment to providing a high-quality, nurturing environment where children flourish. Inspectors praised the outstanding care and attention provided to children’s physical and emotional wellbeing, alongside the rigorous focus on early literacy, numeracy, and personal development. They noted how children in the nursery "develop secure foundations" and are encouraged to become confident, independent learners.
Our carefully planned curriculum, enriched with engaging activities, was also celebrated. Inspectors were impressed by the use of creative, stimulating opportunities to support children’s language and motor skills, and how our approach ensures that every child’s needs are met.

The report described our setting as "inclusive and nurturing," noting that children are happy, confident, and well-prepared for the next stages of their educational journey. Our dedicated team of staff was commended for their expertise, and the inspectorate highlighted how children benefit from their detailed knowledge, care, and high expectations.

We invite you to read the full report which we are immensely proud of.

Transition

We understand that choosing the right nursery is an important decision, whether your child is moving from another setting or this is their first experience with a childcare provider.

At The Mount Nursery, we prioritise creating smooth and positive daily transitions for both children and families. Our caring and dedicated staff are always on hand to greet your child with a warm smile, a comforting hand, or gentle reassurance, helping them feel welcomed and secure from the moment they arrive.

We work in partnership with you to ensure that your child receives the support and attention they need to confidently transition into nursery, between our rooms, and into Reception, no matter their next educational pathway—state or independent school.

To ensure smooth and high-quality transitions, we maintain clear communication with families. This includes free taster sessions that gradually increase in length, giving both parents and children the opportunity to meet their key worker and feel at ease in the nursery environment. Additionally, we hold transitional meetings with staff when children are moving between rooms, transitioning to a new key worker, or preparing to move into The Mount School.

As standard for enrolment, we offer:

A free one-hour session where you and your child can meet their key worker, discuss your child’s needs, and explore the nursery environment together while they play.

A free half-day session where your child stays with us independently for a few hours, giving them the chance to settle and build confidence in the setting. Following this, we will have a handover discussion to share how your child settled and discuss the next steps.

When a child is moving to another setting, we provide thorough support through phone calls and detailed transition forms to ensure a seamless and comprehensive handover.

Learning at The Mount Nursery

We follow the Government’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, which sets the standards for learning, development, and care for children from birth to five years of age. Our activities are designed to meet the unique needs of every child, ensuring a personalised and engaging experience for all.

Prime / Specific Areas of Learning

There are three prime areas of learning in which our Early Years professionals support children to learn and develop. These are:
• Personal, social and emotional development
• Communication and  language
• Physical development

Plus four specific areas of learning.  These are:
• Literacy
• Mathematics
• Understanding of the World
• Expressive Arts and Design

At The Mount Nursery, our children are at the heart of every decision we make. We've designed our spaces to create a warm, inviting environment where children from six months to five years old can explore, discover, and engage in meaningful play.

Our Baby and Toddler room provides a combined space where our youngest learners can grow together. While the room features divides to ensure appropriate separation, it also offers the flexibility for children to play and make friendships with others, fostering social development in a nurturing environment.

Our Pre School room provides an academically enriched environment, preparing older children for the next stage of their educational journey. With a strong focus on early literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving, children develop essential skills such as phonics, number recognition, and early reasoning.

Resources are tailored to promote independence and curiosity, while structured activities balance academic learning with play. This approach ensures children leave as confident, capable, and school-ready learners.
