Building Strong Foundations
At The Mount Nursery, growth and development are rooted in happiness, security, and fun—values that guide everything we do. In the Pre School Room, children experience a carefully designed curriculum that blends child-led exploration with adult-guided learning, helping every child progress confidently toward their next milestones.
The Preschool curriculum prioritises core skills such as personal, social, and emotional development, communication and language, and physical confidence. Building on this foundation, children begin exploring Literacy, Mathematics, Creative Arts, and an Understanding of the World, setting the stage for future academic success.
Early Academic Skills
Pre School is where children take their first steps into structured phonics and maths sessions. These activities are designed to nurture a love of learning while equipping children with the skills they need to succeed in reading, writing, and numeracy as they move toward school readiness.
Additionally, children benefit from built-in learning opportunities such as PE lessons, ICT sessions, and specialist subject teaching in French and music. These lessons introduce new skills, languages, and creative expression, enriching their experience and broadening their horizons. This integrated approach helps children develop confidence and enthusiasm for learning in diverse areas.
Exploration and Discovery
At The Mount Nursery, our Pre School Room is designed to ignite curiosity and foster independent learning. Through a balance of child-led exploration and structured activities, Pre-Schoolers develop essential skills in preparation for their next educational journey.
In addition to regular trips to the school library to nurture a love of reading, our Pre-Schoolers are encouraged to engage with open-ended materials, which inspire creativity, imaginative play, and problem-solving. These resources, such as loose parts, fabric, and natural elements, allow children to express their ideas freely, build confidence, and develop critical thinking skills. Every day offers opportunities for discovery, ensuring they are well-prepared for the transition to primary school.
