Pre-School

Pre-School

While the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) serves as a government-mandated programme of learning, we at The Mount Preparatory School recognise the importance of interpreting it through our professional judgement, allowing us to surpass national expectations and deliver a curriculum which fosters higher levels of attainment.
Our Lower Kindergarten (Nursery) and Kindergarten (Reception) classes adhere to all EYFS requirements while striving for excellence beyond the national standard. Led by our highly experienced EYFS team, supplemented by specialist support in music and French, our curriculum is designed to provide a rich and dynamic learning experience for our youngest learners.

In Lower Kindergarten, catering to children aged 3-4 years, learning is synonymous with curiosity, exploration, and the joy of discovery. Our staff cultivate a supportive environment where children not only enjoy learning but also develop essential skills such as self-discipline, early study habits, and resilience. It is these qualities that lay the foundation for lifelong learning.

Aligned with the EYFS framework, our curriculum encompasses seven areas of learning, categorised into three prime areas: Communication and Language, Physical Development, and Personal, Social, and Emotional Development, as well as four specific areas: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design. Through a thematic approach to learning, which changes every half term, children engage in topic-based activities that foster holistic development and ignite their natural curiosity.
