At The Mount, we provide a world-class education. Pupils are not only prepared for their next school, they are also prepared for life. Many students go on to secure places at selective grammar schools via 11+ assessment, such as The Crossley Heath School, North Halifax Grammar School and Heckmondwike Grammar School, and top independent schools within the region. Many students also achieve various scholarships, including academic excellence, music, performing arts and sports scholarships.
Our bespoke curriculum extends children much further than the standard frameworks found in the National Curriculum. Financial education & money management lessons broach topics of mortgages, savings accounts and budgeting for various life scenarios. A real sense of responsibility to the community is also nurtured during these lessons as, each year, the children participate in a project-based unit where their earnings and profits are donated to a worthy cause in the local community. In the summer term, the whole school participates in an election day where the children get a real sense of democracy. The children from Form V deliver speeches for the prestigious roles of head boy and head girl, after which, votes are cast by all members of the school community and the successful candidates are then announced at the annual prize giving ceremony following on from Sports Day. Questioning and debating skills are held in high regard in all year groups as children are encouraged to discuss a philosophical question each week. This range of real-life opportunities built into the school year, ensures that every child departs from The Mount, equipped for life in society.
